This magnificent golden Mask of Teres is considered an absolute sensation for Bulgarian archaeology. It was found not far away from the village of Shipka, in the Central Balkans of Bulgaria. The treasure was discovered in the tomb of the first famous Odrys ruler, Teres. The archaeologists estimated that he lived from 480 to 440 BCE. When excavating the tomb, the expedition from the Archaeology Museum of Sofia found the golden mask and a golden ring.
This finding is second to none on the Balkan Peninsula. The astonishing Mask of Teres is made of 23-carat solid gold and weighs approximately 670 grams. It resembles a cast with distinctive features. In addition, the extremely delicate ring weighs 15 grams and it is considered to be one of the largest Thracian rings that have been found so far.
